Record 9th Appearance for Ricky
22nd Februaray 2008

Ricky will be making a record breaking 9th appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman on the 17th of July. He'll be making this appearance when he's in New York doing his stand up at Madison Square Garden. No other comedian has been on the Late Show this many times British or otherwise. Letterman is a big fan of Gervais and once described The Office as "perfect".

Ricky is dressed as Henry VIII in the new Radio Times. “I love paying tax,” the comedian tells the magazine. “It helps justify how much I earn. There’s something unsavoury about tax exiles. Pay your tax or fuck off.”

Gervais also lays into those who use Comic Relief for personal gain. “Why would I go to Africa and film myself crying?” he says. “Some do charity and you never hear about them; others, like me, do it because we’re caught up in it; and loads do it who have a gig to sell or a record to boost. I’ve seen acts on Comic Relief whose tour starts the following day. It’s disgraceful, but I won’t name them.” Gervais appeared on Comic Relief in 2005, 2006 and 2007. So this may be a joke.

Ricky gave the interview in anticipation of Channel 4's documentary Ricky Gervais: New Hero of Comedy, the next issue of the Radio Times has Ricky on the cover. The show goes out on Friday 22nd Feb and features contributions from Chris Rock, Billy Connolly, Michael Palin, Matt Groening and Christopher Guest amongst others.
